About Simon
Hello! I'm Simon, I've been obsessed with music (and Guitar) from a very young age, and have been playing Guitar for roughly 18 years. I grew up in a very musical household, listening to a wide variety of music. I'm a massive fan of bands like 'The Police' and 'The Smiths', plus more 'jazz' artists like 'Herbie Hancock' and 'Snarky Puppy'.
I've played Piano since I was 3-4, and have had Guitar lessons since the age of 7, falling in love with the Instrument ever since!
I've been fortunate enough to have had an extremely supportive family and music education. Having had lessons myself from masterful Melbourne Jazz Guitarists such as Stephen Magnusson, James Sherlock and Doug De Vries. I was a student at VCASS for my final 3 years of High School before studying a Bachelor of Music at the VCA (Melbourne University).
I've been mentored by several incredible musicians throughout my life, such as Bob Sedergreen, Andrea Keller, Barney McAll, Sam Anning, Julien Wilson, Ben Robertson, Nick Haywood, Angela Davis, Matt Jodrell, Carl Mackey...
I am super into transcribing (turning what you hear into sheet music) and have been working as an arranger and music copyist for years. I also lead my own bands, performing in venues around Melbourne.

I tailor every lesson to suit the interests of my students. My main teaching philosophy is to help my students teach themselves, and grow into well-rounded musicians. I put a lot of emphasis into teaching my students how to learn and understand music by ear.
I would say that my teaching style would suit someone who is familiar with the basics of guitar, but is looking to branch out and extend themselves and improve rapidly! I am experienced at teaching all age groups and levels. Yes, Beginners welcome!
