I found myself to be a both a visual and hands on learner. I prefer to give a short explanation and example before allowing students to have a go themselves. From this I move to offer any further advise, explanation and assistance which may help them further. I outline as many steps as possible opting to take the long way round equations to begin with, ensuring a basis of understanding before working on the speed of the work.
I am a Commerce student at the University of Melbourne and have been tutoring at my secondary school in Mathematics for students from year 6 to year 10. All students saw significant improvement in marks and started to enjoy their work more. I pride myself on my examples and succinct explanations. I think back to methods which helped me understand concepts and relay this in varying forms onto my students.
