About Nian
Hi I'm Nian,
A Year 11 student at Melbourne High School, one of Victoria's top selective entry schools. I received a 1st round offer into MHS with 4 superiors, and I currently study 6 VCE subjects including Biology, Chemistry, English Language, French Language, Math Methods, and Specialist Math.
Outside of school, I compete in volleyball at the Division 2 club level and represent my school's seniors team, traveling interstate for competitions & exchange events while training 3–4 times a week. Managing that alongside a demanding academic workload has taught me the value of discipline, time management, and working smart. Skills I actively pass on to my students.
I want to tutor because I genuinely enjoy helping younger students build confidence in subjects I've recently excelled in myself. Being close in age means I can explain things in a way that's relatable and easy to understand, without the gap that sometimes comes with older tutors. I've achieved 10+ top 3% placements in ICAS and AMC competitions over 3 years, and I'm passionate about helping students (especially those aiming for selective schools) reach their potential.

My lessons are personalized one-on-one sessions tailored to each student's specific needs and learning pace. I start by reviewing previous material to reinforce long-term retention, then work through current topics with a focus on genuine understanding rather than rote memorization.
Sessions typically run for 1-2 hours and are held in person (at a local library or your home) around the Ringwood area.
As a Year 11 student at Melbourne High School (1st round selective entry with 4 superiors), I teach Math, English, and Writing for students in Years 1–10. I'm especially experienced with selective school and scholarship preparation, having gone through the process myself recently.
My approach is peer-based and approachable. I explain concepts the way a fellow student would, making them easier to grasp and apply. I also incorporate time management and study strategies that helped me balance 6 VCE subjects alongside competitive volleyball, so students learn to work efficiently without burning out.
