My teaching method is geared towards students who appreciate a hands on approach to learning. This involves giving them practical skills to work with and helping them to correct their work together and then look at areas that they can improve on. In particular, history as a subject lends itself to many memory games and interesting story-telling to engage the students. My philosophy for teaching includes engaging with the students and helping them to understand that it is they who have the ability to achieve their goals.
I am a university student currently studying history and politics at the University of Melbourne. In the past I have only given informal mentoring to VCE students who have struggled with history subjects. Both of my parents are teachers and through my own mentoring I have learned to understand the personal satisfaction that a teacher acquires as their students flourish. The students that I have mentored in the past were initially apprehensive in history but gained confidence and a great score by the end.
