About James

I’m an early-30s English singer songwriter who began teaching myself to sing and to scream around 2006 when I was 16. Back then there were very few people offering any insights into metal vocals so I’d like to produce that source of helpfor aspiring metal vocalists.

I’ve been doing vocals consistently for around 15 years now. I’ve toured in bands, played countless shows, and for the last few years I’ve been working as a freelance singersongwriter and have collaborated and performed on over 400 songs, many of them in metal and requiring screaming or unclean vocals.

Metal vocals are like any other skill: they are something that you never stop practicing if you want to be great. Something you build on by turning praxtice into experience. But the best thing about them is - anyone can do them! Absolutely anyone. Singing traditionallymay require a certain amount of inborn talent. some people have a naturally pleasing sounding voice, or a voice in a particularly suitable register. But with metal vocals, how you sound and how goodyou are is up to you.

About the lesson

I’ve been doing metal vocals since 2008. I’ve been in bands, I’ve played countless shows and tours, and for the last few years I’ve been a freelance songwriter and vocalist and have helped write and record over 400 songs. My wheelhouse is metal. But when I started, there were few people out there who offered to teach.

Work with me one on one and I’ll get you from complete beginner, to being able to do loud, confident, brutal sounding metal vocals on command in no time.

Or perhaps you know how to do them and want to polish your technique or expand your range. I’ll help you get those shrieky highs, those brutal guttorals and anything in between.

Lessons will be at least 30 minutes, up to an hour. Too much will strainus both and be counterproductive! I would recommend lessons for anyone over the age of 16.

We would begin by finding out your current level, techniques, breathing etc and move gradually into first making the sounds and then mastering the ability to produce them on command.
