About Ramon

I have been teaching middle school science for several years. I have spent most of my time working as an environmental scientist for the Arizona Dept of Environmental Quality. As an environmental scientist, I was part of a team responsible for making sure that the solid waste generated in Arizona was properly disposed of. This required good knowledge of chemistry for identifying hazardous wastes, physics for understanding the integrity of landfill structure, and biology for recognizing the dangers of biohazardous medical waste. Understanding the fundamentals of various sciences helps to know how rainfall can create the energy that causes hazardous materials at construction sites to become pollution on neighboring properties. All of this experience allows me to give advice on many different jobs that require knowledge of science.

My Teaching Approach as a Middle School Science Tutor
Teaching Method and Techniques:
My approach centers on student engagement, clarity, and confidence-building. I use a mix of visual aids, interactive discussions, guided experiments (virtual or hands-on), and real-life applications to make abstract concepts more concrete and relatable. I emphasize inquiry-based learning, encouraging students to ask questions and think like young scientists. Every student learns differently, so I tailor my instruction style—whether they are visual, verbal, or hands-on learners.

I also reinforce scientific thinking and vocabulary, helping students not only memorize facts but truly understand how to form hypotheses, interpret data, and draw conclusions—skills that are essential in science and beyond.

A Typical Lesson Plan:
A standard 60-minute session is structured as follows:

Warm-Up (5–10 mins) – Quick review or quiz to refresh previous material and assess retention.

Concept Introduction (15–20 mins) – New topic explained with visuals, analogies, and real-world examples.

Interactive Practice (15–20 mins) – Activities like problem-solving, virtual simulations, short experiments, or discussion questions.

Review & Reinforcement (10 mins) – Summary of key takeaways, Q&A, and strategies to retain the information.

Wrap-Up & Assignments (5 mins) – Homework (if requested), feedback, and goals for the next session.

For students preparing for tests, I also include test-taking strategies and review games to make studying more effective and less stressful.

What Sets Me Apart:
I combine a strong science background with a deep understanding of middle school learning challenges—academic and emotional.

I’m patient, creative, and skilled at turning frustration into curiosity and motivation.

I emphasize confidence and communication—I want my students to feel empowered to speak, write, and think scientifically.

Who My Lessons Are For:
Grade Level: Middle school students (typically grades 6–8)

Subjects Covered: General science, life science, earth science, physical science, introduction to chemistry and physics.
