About Ellen
I studied Modern Languages at Durham University and speak French, Spanish and Catalan. I have lived in Peru, Paris and Barcelona and am passionate about languages, working in various schools and as a private tutor. I tailor my sessions to suit each student's individual needs and am very adaptable if the student has something in particular they would like to work on.

I have recently returned from Barcelona, where I worked as an ESL teacher and tutored English. For new pupils studying French and Spanish, I start with teaching basic verb conjugations alongside pronunciation and conversational language, as I have found this is the best way to build confidence. We then progress to more challenging aspects of language learning such as listening and speaking.
I have tutored English GCSE and A Level for over a year and my lessons typically last an 45 minutes to 1 hour. For English Language, I start with the best techniques for descriptive writing as I find this to be the most accessible and engaging aspect of the exams, and the most effective ways to extract meaning from the exam texts in order to get the highest mark.
For English Literature, I can offer extra support with the texts the student is studying in class. We can discuss themes, characters and elements that may come up as questions in their exams. I will teach the methods I know are reliable for securing the top marks.

I charge £30 an hour for GSCE and A Level- this price reflects my experience and knowledge of French, Spanish and English Literature and Language. I am open to negotiating price for students who only want to practice conversational French and Spanish:)
