About Ruby
I was born and raised in a household of 3 different languages. I grew up on a small island in Hong Kong. I have a passion for helping students build their confidence and their self-esteem, especially those who may find learning a little more challenging. As well as tutoring, I'm also a teaching assistant in a school that supports additional needs, so I will always be here to help any way I can. I am a dedicated and patient tutor specialising in supporting neurodiverse learners aged 5–14 with language development and functional skills. I use structured, evidence-based strategies tailored to each student’s strengths and learning style. Through clear communication, consistency, and professionalism, I create a supportive environment that builds confidence, independence, and meaningful progress.

Techniques used: task analysis (prepared by myself or a task generator), visuals, prompting and gradual fading (to build independence), naturalistic teaching, repetition with variation & positive reinforcement. I hold A-level Chinese, English and Business Administration certificates, NVQ 3 in early years educator, and now finishing off my TEFL. I am a native English speaker, alongside speaking multiple other languages, including Cantonese as my first language, Mandarin, Tagalog (2 dialects) and Spanish. I have taught English to various non-English speakers based in Hong Kong. I was a kindergarten English teacher in Hong Kong for about a year, alongside being an English/ maths tutor to ages 6-18, preparing them for GCSE A-level English. I can cater lessons to your needs, beginner-friendly and help you build your confidence.
