About Kai

I am a songwriter, composer, and musician based in Edinburgh who believes that learning an instrument is a fun and useful skill that anyone can learn. The ukulele is a perfect first instrument and gateway to other stringed instruments. I have been playing the instrument for over 10 years and am happy to teach both complete beginners and intermediate students. I am currently studying for my Master's in composition for visual media and enjoy creating original scores and arrangements of popular music for the ukulele. Together, we will decide on level-appropriate songs to build up your repertoire and learn new playing techniques.

About the lesson

I have been playing the ukulele for nearly ten years and give fun and practical classes to students of all ages. I am also happy to teach music theory, vocal techniques, and songwriting! In my classes, we will be learning a selection of popular songs and exercises, selected with the intention of expanding your skill set as a musician and creating a performance repertoire that you can use on stage at gigs or for casual jams with friends.

Perfect! Amazing teacher, very patient even though I was asking too many questions sometimes. Struggle with my previous teacher for a long time but Kai taught me A LOT during the 6 lessons. Absolutely great!

Perfect! Kai has been teaching my 9 year old son the Ukulele via video call. Kai is patient, calm and has perfectly tailored his lessons for my sons interest and tastes - covering a wide spectrum of music from pop music to theme songs from my sons favourite video games. As a result, my son absolutely loves his weekly lesson with Kai and is retaining much more of the cords and skills than he did at school lessons. We can’t thank you enough Kai - a super tutor indeed!

Kai is patient, calm and has perfectly tailored his lessons for my sons interest and tastes - covering a wide spectrum of music from pop music to theme songs from my sons favourite video games. Luca has a clear passion for music and is making good progress with his playing. He is a fun and intelligent kid and I've enjoyed getting to know him over the past few months. The next step to develop his playing is to master playing three finger chords (such as G). In future classes we will continue working on building left hand strength and dexterity to meet this goal. Keep practicing and keep up the good work!

I've enjoyed teaching Martineo ukulele, he's punctual and has a wonderful attitude towards learning. My main advice would be to develop a regular practice routine in order to build up stamina and fluidity of movement in the left hand.

Perfect! I could not have hoped for a better tutor than Kai!! :) He's a very professional teacher, kind, very well organised, encouraging and fun! He's also a lovely person :) I fully recommend trying ukulele classes with him - at the end of each lesson I feel happier and way more prepared than before. Since we're currently working on left-hand mobility, I would recommend that she incorporates the warm-up exercises we've learned in class into her regular practice routine. I was lucky enough to stumble across a video of Kai from a gig a friend had attended. He's been teaching me the Ukulele for over 8 months now. I wont waste time championing Kai's skill with the ukulele, you can see his tender soulful performance for yourself, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g4X0qew_31M. What I will comment on are his skills as a teacher. He never failed to push me that little bit further and if any frustration appeared he could win me back round with his boyish smile. If you choose Kai you'll be punting down the lazy rivers of Derbyshire town strumming away in no time.
