About María
Hi, I'm glad you're here! I hope you can get to know a little about me and my history with music through the following lines:
My name is Maria, I'm 25 years old, and basically music has been part of my life since I was very little. I was always singing, at all times and everywhere, without caring if there was someone out there listening or not. Doing so was something very natural to me, like walking. Humming melodies and exploring what I was capable of doing with my voice was my favorite pastime, and also dancing, listening to music...
When I was 12 years old, my father, who had always admired and supported that side of me, gave me my first (semi-acoustic) guitar. A navy blue guitar that brought me new challenges and experiences in life, and has accompanied me ever since.
The music began to take different forms, and I was fascinated to discover that there was also a guitarist in me.
My father, who was always playing music at home, made me dream of a Maria capable of playing electric guitar solos. We sat and were amazed listening for hours to great guitarists like Carlos Santana, Mark Knopfler, Eric Clapton...later on Joe Bonamassa... They were magical moments that marked me!
The first guitar solo I learned to play, already with my first electric guitar (a Fender Squier) and thanks to YouTube tutorials, was the song "Europa", by the newly appointed Carlos Santana. After a couple of days of practicing on the sly I called my father to hear me perform the song. It was quite a surprise for him, his eyes lit up.
After that I started to focus more on the guitar than on the singing, and I even forgot about it a bit, but I think that's how it had to be.
Sometimes in life it is necessary and healthy to distance yourself from some things, give yourself some time and then return to them from another place and with another perspective.
For a long time I only sang and played songs by other artists. I think doing it is necessary to explore and discover what we like, but when it was time to take the next step, to make something of my own, I doubted myself and then I walked away from all that.
I thought that music was not going to be part of my life again, but thinking about that idea hurt me a lot, and I was never clear about it!
Now I know that it has always been in me. Music has accompanied me through different stages and in different ways, and will continue to do so. It has accompanied me in the most beautiful stages but also in the most complicated.
Yes, at the time I took a "certain" distance from music, but just at that time (about 6 years ago) the opportunity arose to start teaching and sharing my knowledge and experiences with other people. And there began a different but very beautiful stage in my history with music: teaching.
