• 1) When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

  After I finished nursing school, when I realized I learned differently than how my professors presented the information. I am a visual and kinesthetic learner, and through tutoring, I have found most of my students learn the same way.

• 2) Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

  Anything nursing or human science related! I can help with most pre-requisites as well, except for English and Statistics 😊

• 3) Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

  My Anatomy & Physiology teacher in high school, and I very much teach the way he did. I bring in real life examples and I break the learning down into the most basic form. I also teach the "why" behind each of the topics we cover, which helps to build the student's critical thinking skills.

• 4) What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

  Patience and understanding. Understanding that each student has come from different levels of education at institutions that all teach differently. Understanding that students are adults, and life sometimes gets in the way, so don't add stress on to the student if they have to cancel a session.

• 5) Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

  If you are afraid of failure, you will never succeed. I have lived by this and will continue to. I feel like when you work towards something, through failure, and you finally succeed, you appreciate it that much more and never take advantage of it.

• 6) What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or still facing in your subject?

  The nursing world is always changing and if you don't do your part in continuing to learn, regardless of what field you are in, you will run into barriers to providing safe, high-quality care to your patients.

• 7) Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

  Everything about teaching. I love to teach nursing students, coworkers through precepting, and patients/families. I love when I can see the confidence build through their eyes. That, is when I know I have succeeded.

• 8) What makes you a Superprof (besides answering this interview questions :-P)?

  I truly love watching my students grow and succeed. Getting the phone calls that they passed an exam or pass the certification exam truly lights up my day!
