I would give out the details of how to pronounce properly. The position of your tongue in your mouth, the shape of your mouth while articulating.
I will also give out the tips to read Chinese characters.
Anyway, I would say, there must be thousands of ways to learn a language. I focus on basic knowledge. Once you get the rationale of a language, you can use it in more situations than the one where you learnt it.
