About Zoe

I have finished high school with an International Baccalaureate diploma of 40/45 (higher level: Biology, Chemistry, Modern Greek/ Standard level: Maths, English B, Psychology). As I mentioned in my title I am on the 4th year of my Biology degree at the University of St Andrews. My degree has a year placement requirement, which I just finished. My placement took place in the USA at the Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute. In addition to this, I have had two research assistantships at my university. Through these experiences, I developed my communication skills with people with different personalities and learnt how to communicate efficiently. I also wrote publishable and concise reports which helped me on focusing on the important details of subjects. I love working with younger people and aid them in the process of learning new things and make them enjoy a subject that I thoroughly love myself.

About the lesson

As a native speaker and someone who studied and now works in the UK I'll be able to give lessons in English and gradually we will move in speaking more and more in Greek throughout the lessons. We will start by learning the basics (alphabet, phonetics, basic words) and after the student feels comfortable with them we will continue to grammar, which is very important in Greek! I will be able to suggest easy readings so that the student can get comfortable with both speaking and reading. If the student wants to we will also be able to gradually shift to more complicated literature and analyse it. Essay writing, although not enjoyed by many students, will also be part of the teaching process as it is a fundamental component in learning a language. The advantage of having a native speaker teaching you will come in handy in learning some more everyday language that will help you if decided to travel to this very famous tourist destination that Greece is. This teaching methodology is, however, just a guideline and I will be willing to change it to meet the student's needs.
