About Sonia

I’m a native Italian teacher, CEDILS certified, with more than 10 years of experience teaching languages in Italy and abroad.

My background is quite international: I lived and worked for several years in Beijing and Paris, and I speak English, French and Chinese. This experience has deeply influenced the way I teach. I know what it means to learn a language from the inside — not simply memorizing grammar rules, but gradually finding your own voice in another language.

Alongside language teaching, I work with intercultural education, visual communication and illustration. I am especially interested in the connection between language, storytelling, images and personal experience.

For me, learning a language is also a way of telling stories: about ourselves, the places we come from, the places we discover and the people we meet.

That is why my lessons often combine conversation with visual materials, stories, photographs, illustrations, cultural references and creative activities.

Whether you want to feel more confident speaking Italian, prepare for a trip, reconnect with your Italian heritage or simply discover Italian language and culture in a more meaningful way, I will create a learning path adapted to you.

About the lesson

My lessons are communication-focused, but they are not based on conversation alone.

I use a narrative, visual and creative approach to help students connect new language with experiences, images and stories. Instead of learning isolated vocabulary and grammar rules, we work with language in context.

Depending on your interests and level, a lesson might start from:

a photograph or an illustration

a short story or personal memory

an Italian place, artwork or cultural tradition

an everyday situation

a newspaper article, video or authentic Italian material

a visual storytelling or creative writing activity

From there, we develop vocabulary, pronunciation, listening, grammar and conversation naturally.

I also create many of my own learning materials and adapt them to the student rather than following one textbook from beginning to end.

My aim is to create a relaxed environment where you can experiment with Italian without being afraid of making mistakes, while still receiving clear guidance and structured feedback.
