About Sophie

Hi! My name is Sophie, and I am a University of Bristol graduate and a native Italian and English speaker.

I was born and raised in Italy, where I completed my entire education up to high school, before moving to the UK to study at the University of Bristol. Being educated in Italy and then completing my university studies in the UK has given me a strong understanding of both the Italian and English languages, as well as their cultures.

I am passionate about languages and love helping students develop their confidence and communication skills in a friendly and supportive environment. I offer personalised lessons in both Italian and English, suitable for all levels, from complete beginners to advanced learners. Whether your goal is to improve your speaking skills, grammar, pronunciation, writing, prepare for exams, travel, work, or simply feel more confident using the language, I will tailor each lesson to your individual needs and objectives.

My lessons are engaging, interactive, and adapted to your learning style. I believe that the best way to learn a language is by actually using it, so I focus on developing practical communication skills while also helping you understand the culture behind the language.

Whether you are starting from scratch or looking to take your language skills to the next level, I would love to help you achieve your goals and make learning a language an enjoyable and rewarding experience!

About the lesson

My teaching approach is centred around you. I believe that there is no single way to learn a language, so I adapt every lesson to your level, goals, personality, and preferred way of learning.

Whether you are learning Italian or English, I combine clear explanations with plenty of practical use of the language. My aim is not simply to teach you grammar rules, but to help you actually feel comfortable using the language in real-life situations.

What does a typical lesson look like?
Each lesson is personalised, but a typical session may include:
-A short conversation at the beginning to practise speaking and build confidence.
-A focused section on grammar, vocabulary, or pronunciation, depending on what you need to improve.
-Practical exercises and activities to apply what we have learned.
-Conversation practice based on topics that genuinely interest you, from everyday life and travel to culture, current topics, literature, or your own hobbies.
-Feedback and corrections throughout the lesson, with clear explanations of how and why something can be improved.
-A short recap at the end, so you leave the lesson knowing exactly what you have learned and what to work on next.

For students preparing for exams, schoolwork, or language certifications, I can also structure lessons around your specific syllabus, practise exam-style questions, review written work, and conduct realistic speaking or exam simulations.

I am also happy to provide personalised homework and additional exercises upon request, allowing you to continue practising between lessons without making the learning process overwhelming.

What makes my lessons different?
As someone who was educated in Italy and later completed my university studies in the UK, I understand both the language and the experience of learning across cultures. I can therefore explain not only what is correct, but also why native speakers actually use certain expressions, structures, and ways of communicating.

I want my students to feel comfortable making mistakes. Mistakes are an essential part of learning, and my role is to help you understand them and turn them into progress.

Most importantly, I want lessons to feel like a conversation rather than a traditional classroom. Your interests, goals, and difficulties will shape our lessons, and I will continuously adapt my approach as you improve.

Whether you are starting from zero, preparing for an important exam, or simply want to become more confident speaking Italian or English, I will work with you to create a learning experience that is personalised, supportive, engaging, and genuinely useful.
