About Mana

Hi, my name is Mana. I am a native Japanese speaker born and raised in Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan. I studied abroad in Los Angeles when I was 18 to learn English. I received my BA in Psychology in the United States. I am currently living in North Georgia (near Chattanooga TN).

My hobbies are traveling, cooking, watching anime, and playing video games. I also love learning about psychology and mental health. I was part of a mental health organization in California, where I helped support people experiencing mental health challenges.

About the lesson

[Teaching Experience]
I have been teaching Japanese online to students around the world for more than 3 years. I hold a certificate in a 420-hour Advanced Japanese Teacher Training Course. I also have experience working as a tutor at a cram school in Yokohama, Japan. In 2019, I went to Cambodia as a Japanese culture educator, where I taught Japanese culture in local schools.

[My Lesson Styles]
I currently offer 3 types of lessons. I can also customize these lessons based on your goals and needs, so please feel free to share what you would like to focus on!

1. For beginner students, we will study the Japanese alphabet, basic grammar, and conversation with support from the Genki 1 textbook. During lessons, I use both our chat and the textbook to help improve your Japanese skills in a balanced and interactive way.

2. For intermediate and advanced students, conversation and discussion focused lessons are available (suitable for those who have passed JLPT N3 or higher, or have an equivalent proficiency level.). In these lessons, we will use NHK News Web Easy or NHK News Web as the main materials. We will improve reading, speaking, listening, and comprehension skills by discussing the topics of each article. These lessons are perfect for students who want to practice output and develop their conversational Japanese naturally.

3. Casual conversation practice is also available for students who want to improve their speaking skills in a more relaxed setting.

Homework is not mandatory because every student has different needs and learning styles. However, if you would like homework, please let me know and I will be happy to provide it.

It is important to me that students enjoy learning and using Japanese in my lessons. I want you to feel comfortable and free from the pressure of making mistakes during our lessons. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have about the Japanese language and culture at any time during class.
