About Alvin

Hi! I’m Alvin, a bilingual Mandarin Chinese tutor with a background in teaching, media, and international training. I graduated from New York University with a degree in Film & Television and served as a teaching assistant at NYU, where I helped students sharpen their writing, presentation, and critical thinking skills. I’ve also worked as a guest lecturer with TEDxNYU and National Chiao Tung University, and led onboarding training for professionals at NBCUniversal and Peloton. These experiences have taught me how to connect with learners of all levels—whether you're a total beginner, a heritage speaker, or an advanced student preparing for academic or professional goals. As a tutor, I’m patient, creative, and deeply committed to helping each student find their voice in Mandarin. I focus not just on vocabulary or grammar, but on how to express thoughts with clarity and confidence. About the lesson

My Mandarin Chinese lessons are designed to help students speak naturally, write clearly, and think critically in Chinese—whether you're just starting out or looking to refine advanced skills.

I take a bilingual, student-centered approach, blending language structure with real-world conversation and cultural nuance. With a degree from New York University in Film & Television and teaching experience at NYU, TEDxNYU, and National Chiao Tung University, I bring both creativity and structure to the classroom. I’ve also led corporate training sessions at NBCUniversal and Peloton, helping professionals communicate with impact—skills I now apply to teaching Mandarin with clarity and care.

Each lesson begins with a short warm-up and review, followed by skill-based practice such as vocabulary building, sentence structure, or guided conversation. For writing-focused sessions, we may work through prompts together or revise student writing to improve tone and flow. I also incorporate Chinese idioms, grammar points, and cultural topics to deepen learning.

What sets me apart is my focus on logical thinking and natural expression—I don’t just teach you to memorize phrases, but to express your own ideas with confidence and precision. Lessons are available in full Mandarin or with English support, depending on your level and preference.
