About Dmitry

My name is Dmitry Yakovenko.
I’m a professional actor and studied at The Moscow Art Theatre School.
I left Russia almost three years ago trying to escape the war.
My immigration process was pretty long but because of it I had the opportunity to try a profession that I never really thought of trying before —teaching. For a couple of years I was teaching social studies for kids, but I also was teaching a few people Russian on the side. And guess what? They speak some Russian now. And even though these people are not fluent in Russian, I understood for myself — that I can do it!
I know how hard it is to learn a new language. And I know that sometimes you just wanna give up, because it’s not always easy and fun. I can assure you that this won’t happen with me!
It’s always such a pleasure to hear other people speaking your language and that’s what gives me energy to make this process easy and fun for you!

About the lesson

Hello! My name is Dmitry.
I can help you learn Russian easily and with pleasure.
I truly believe that you can be fluent in some languages only if you learn from the best. Just like you can’t be fluent in English without understanding Shakespeare, Hemingway, or Dickens— you can’t be fluent in Russian without knowing Pushkin, Chekhov, and Dostoevsky.
My teaching method is very unique for every student. First I need to understand what level you’re on and then I can provide you with material to study— either a simple alphabet or a monologue from “Three Sisters”.
I’m a professional actor, I studied at the Moscow Art Theatre School. So even if you think that you don’t need Russian lessons anymore but you want fix your accent and be really smooth in conversation, I can help you with that too.
And I know that for most people in the world, Russian literature equals sadness and tragedy, but I can assure you that this is only one side of the coin. I’ll walk you through the world of really comedic, light, intellectual and even horror (if you want) Russian literature that even most Russian natives don’t really know about!
I also love history and I know Russian history pretty well, so you’ll not only speak Russian you’ll understand why we speak like we do!
I love Russian language and culture and I would be pleased to share this love with you!
