About Joy

Hello, I am Joy from Sigalagala, Kakamega County in Western Kenya. I am a native speaker of Swahili, Kikuyu, and fluent in English.

I love languages and I love teaching. I grew up speaking Kikuyu at home, Swahili at school, and English for my studies, so I understand how difficult it is to learn a new language.

I want to teach because I have seen many foreigners struggle with Swahili when they visit Kenya, and I want to make it easy and fun for them. I am very patient, friendly, and I always make my students feel comfortable to speak and make mistakes.

When I am not teaching, I love reading, listening to music, and learning about different cultures. I would be happy to be your tutor and also your friend in Kenya. Karibu!

About the lesson

My lessons are focused on REAL conversation. I do not teach only from a book.

For Swahili and Kikuyu: We start with greetings, daily market conversation, family words, and common sentences. I will teach you how Kenyans actually speak, including slang. You will learn to introduce yourself, order food, and have a full conversation in 1 month.

For English: We focus on grammar, pronunciation, writing emails, and interview practice.

Method: 60 minutes - 10 minutes revision, 40 minutes speaking practice, 10 minutes homework. I give you notes after every lesson on WhatsApp.

All lessons are ONLINE via Zoom / Google Meet / WhatsApp call. I am flexible with time for USA and Europe students. I am patient with beginners.
