About Umar
I am a self-taught artist and natural historian based in Northern Nigeria. My work spans illustration, design, traditional basketry, botanical cultivation, and arachnology — the study of spiders — which I have researched independently for several years. Alongside my art practice, I run a natural fiber startup, which has deepened my understanding of materials, craft traditions, and process-driven thinking. I am entirely self-directed, which means I know firsthand what it takes to build genuine knowledge outside conventional institutions. I bring that same rigor, curiosity, and patience into every teaching relationship. I take learning seriously — and I take my students seriously.

My Natural Sciences lessons are grounded in real field knowledge rather than textbook-only instruction. I specialize in biology, ecology, botany, and arachnology — the study of spiders — which I have researched independently for several years. I have taught Natural Sciences informally across different age groups and bring genuine hands-on experience to every session, from plant cultivation to spider behavior and habitat. Sessions typically run 60 minutes though I remain flexible based on the student's needs and pace.
