Whenever I teach someone, I start off by making some goals. We sit down and make short term goals and long term goals. That is what I like to adhere to. I want my students to get what they want, rather than what I want.
My methodology includes going through concepts and creating analogies or short stories to help students understand the concepts better. After that we will go through 10 related questions to help cement the concept in a student's mind.
Finally, I will always leave a study manual with practice questions and key concepts for the student to review throughout the week to reinforce what we have done in the session.
I am currently studying neuroscience at UNSW and have been tutoring for the past year. What I do best is give the student exactly what they need to excel. I break down the course content into more understandable concepts and build up slowly.
Best moment: My past student went from credit to distinction in chemistry in 2 days.
I have worked extensively with kids for the ASPIRE program, helping them to form concrete goals for the future education. I have worked to help them implement good study habits that will ensure that they get the marks that they want. We conducted weekly sessions to discuss how they feel they are progressing and what doubts they had. My personal experience in this program gave me the opportunity to work closely with kids, understand their objectives and most importantly, empower them to strive to achieve their full potential.
Next to this, I have worked closely with disadvantaged children using dance therapy to help them express themselves. Implementing dance programs into their schools that allowed them to enjoy a new sense of creativity and freedom.
