About Holly

I remember initially feeling daunted by certain subjects at school, such as maths, but with lots of practice and determination I became more confident with these topics. I love helping students grow in confidence and seeing their pride as they overcome a topic that they previously found challenging. I have tutored many students over the years and recognise that every student deserves to be treated as an individual, with their strengths and weaknesses acknowledged.

During all stages of my academic journey I have often felt out of my comfort zone. I am still currently studying Veterinary Medicine at university and so I understand how it feels to be a student. I believe my tutoring sessions are so successful because I help to identify topics which students struggle with and focus hard on these areas to boost their confidence. Being able to directly relate to my tutees helps me to develop a safe environment where they feel able to ask questions and make mistakes.

I am always happy to talk to students about college or university applications. I am currently studying at the University of Bristol and I also have First Class Degree in Human Neuroscience from the University of Birmingham.

About the lesson

Every student is capable of achieving their desired goals with enough dedication and self-belief. For topics like science and maths, routine practice of the same style questions can improve a student’s knowledge very quickly. I frequently use diagrams to help students visualise difficult concepts. I will always ask my students which topics they feel more confident in and those that they struggle with. It's really important for students to recognise their strengths and weaknesses. Tackling the more challenging topics together can help students to build their confidence.

Having taken four A Levels and recently graduated from my first degree, I understand the pressures young people can be under (applying to university or apprenticeships, maintaining social relationships, studying for exams and many more). Revising can often seem daunting, but by breaking down the learning criteria into small chunks, exams begin to seem a lot less scary. By tutoring, I hope to help students to reach their full potential, all young people deserve the opportunity to explore the subjects they find interesting and strive in these areas.
