About Thomas
I am a student at St Kevin's College in Melbourne, I currently study Physics, Chemistry, Specialist Maths, Japanese, English and Year 12 Maths Methods.
As part of a school assignment, I worked at a local primary school for a semester, as a teacher's aid on Wednesdays to a year 1 class
In the past I've often helped classmates and friends to prepare for exams or tutor them on topics, something which I've found I am capable of doing due to my ease with understanding the given material.

I prefer to bring my students to understand why something works, not just how to apply a formula. To me, maths is a game of logic which you solve using tools, and as such I prefer to work around an idea and go into depth about why we use a formula or an idea in maths and science.
A typical lesson with me would often involve talking about a mathematical idea in more general terms, giving the student an understanding of how the formula operates, and giving examples to prove this. Then I like to have my students explain to me, in their own words, how they think the formula or idea operates so that I may see any kinks in their logic, and so that they can concrete their own understanding of the idea. Finally, we would move onto worked problems and, if needed, some extension work.
