About Olivia

Olivia Leake is currently a Junior at Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, where she is majoring in Oboe Performance with Linda Strommen and minoring in Gender Studies. Leake is the recipient of the Jacob’s School of Music’s Premier Young Artist Scholarship Award and the DJ and Creek Scholarship Award. Originally from the Northern Virginia/Washington DC Area, Leake studied with Jamie Roberts, the Assistant Principal Oboist of the National Symphony Orchestra, during high school. Leake was the Principal Oboist and English Hornist of the DC Youth Orchestra Program and the Capitol Symphonic Youth Orchestra. Leake has been invited to many summer festivals, including the Boston University Tanglewood Institute, Interlochen Summer Arts Program, and the National Symphony Orchestra Summer Music Institute. Leake joined the DC Youth Orchestra on their tours to Chile and Italy. Leake was a guest soloist for the National Endowment of the Arts Meeting at the National Museum for Women in the Arts in Washington DC. In 2019, Leake was the Winner of the DC Youth Orchestra Concerto Competition and played the Marcello Oboe Concerto as a featured soloist with the DC Youth Orchestra.

Leake was a member of the National Symphony Orchestra Youth Fellowship Program during the 2018-2019 school year. Additionally, Leake has participated in many activities in the DC area including a National Symphony Orchestra Side-by-Side, playing at the Argentinian Embassy, and more. Leake participated in a masterclass with Mary Lynch, run by ReedDesign. Leake has had the opportunity to work with professionals including John Ferrillo, Mary Lynch, Anne Gabriele, Robert Sheena, and more.

As well as her musical achievements, Leake has excelled academically. Leake is a part of the Hutton Honors College, is a Founders Scholar, a member of Phi Eta Sigma, and a member of the Mortar Board Honor Society at Indiana University. When Leake is not practicing, making reeds or studying, she likes working out, event planning, shopping for clothes and makeup, and playing with her guinea pigs.

About the lesson

I believe everyone is unique. Each lesson will be specialized for the student and their goals. Even though each student is different, it is important to me that students build strong fundamentals, strong musical instincts, and the ability to recreate those instincts. For more advanced students, I will also teach the fundamentals of reed making.

I am interested in teaching student from elementary age to a senior in high school. Looking forward to hearing from you soon!
