I dislike jamming unnecessary information into students' heads. I prefer keeping it taut by letting in just enough knowledge about relevant topics to get students through their exams with flying colours.
I follow a strictly practical method. I directly approach a question and ask students to give their best shot at answering it. Assuming I receive a half-baked answer, I go on to give it a refined form, explaining where they were mistaken, what's the correct answer, why it is so, and how to answer permutations of the said question.
Dealing with a few more questions in a similar manner is enough to have a baseline foundation on a topic, which is further solidified through continued practice.
