About Julia

I am a Philosophy, Politics, and Economics graduate from the University of Oxford, where I successfully navigated the highly competitive admissions process myself. I have extensive experience preparing students for Oxbridge applications and admissions tests, including the TARA. My students have gone on to receive offers from Oxford, and I have developed a strong understanding of how to break down challenging reasoning problems and teach students to approach them efficiently and confidently.

About the lesson

My TARA lessons focus not only on practising questions, but on developing a clear and efficient approach to the test. I teach students how to recognise different question types, assess difficulty, identify common traps, and develop strategies for reaching the answer quickly without sacrificing accuracy.

I tailor each lesson to the individual student, identifying the areas they find most difficult and building the skills they need to improve. For example, if a student struggles with argument questions, we can work on the fundamentals of identifying premises, conclusions, assumptions and the strength of an argument. For problem-solving and spatial reasoning questions, I focus on recognising patterns and finding the most efficient route to the answer rather than relying on lengthy calculations or trial and error.

The aim is to develop transferable reasoning skills and a personalised strategy that students can apply independently throughout the TARA.

Julia is an excellent tutor and I wholly recommend her for two simple reasons: Julia is not only extremely knowledgeable but most importantly she is able to tutor in a coherent and clear way. This is certainly the most important quality in a tutor and ensures quick and efficient learning.

My experience with Julia as my teacher has been incredible as she always creates an open space for me ask any questions I might have. She is great at essay writing and thoroughly explaining any topics. She not only has a structured and clear way of explaining the content but she also has so much advice when it comes to other areas of academics and studying such as time management tips and ways to stay encouraged or focused in my approach to my work. I would 100% recommend her to other Superprof members looking for a trustworthy and professional tutor.
