About Amala
I am a smart, ambitious and enthusiastic legal professional with over 6 years of experience. I obtained a Master’s degree in International Commercial Law from the University College London and I am currently a PhD student at the University of Manchester. Apart from my qualifications, I have gained teaching and training experiences from various job roles.
In my current position as a Teaching Assistant at the University of Manchester, I lead seminars, teach and facilitate discussions around the theme(s) of Obligations I (Law of Contract) in a class of 50 students. In addition I mark essays and return work to students with feedback, in compliance to prescribed deadlines.
I am also currently working at the University of Manchester Library as a member of the student team. Some of my tasks include providing exam support by handling enquiries about revision strategies, managing revision successfully, exam writing, etc. I also participate in a widening participation programme organised by the University of Manchester Library, aimed at supporting local year-12 students to enter higher education. I have assisted in workshops where I have taught these students research skills to help with their A-level, AVCE and Access course work. More so, I have facilitated a number of academic writing workshops for both research and undergraduate students, as a member of the University of Manchester Library student team.
Furthermore, in my previous position as a Corporate Governance and Compliance Officer, I provided learning sessions to the Legal & Regulatory Department and educated departments and Business Units on standards set by laws and regulations. I also provided corporate governance & compliance training sessions for new employees and facilitated ad-hoc training sessions organized by the Learning & Development Department.
While working as a legal officer over the years, I organised successful training programmes on commercial issues in oil and gas contracts where I delivered an expository, interactive lecture on Production Sharing Contracts as well as Petroleum Licences and Leases to select Federal High Court Judges, Regulators and Legislators. Also in my previous roles as a Paralegal and Legal Assistant, I designed, developed and implemented quality control training programs at my firm.
I am passionate about helping students reach their highest potential by teaching them to excel in their studies and applying to top universities. I employ teaching techniques that lead to improved student achievement using outcomes that matter to their future success. I understand that students have varying learning capabilities therefore, while teaching, I always measure the performance and understanding of the student by asking questions in a friendly manner. Using active learning and activity centred teaching style, I intend to deliver tutorials aimed at developing the knowledge, skills and ambition of the student to help them secure places at top universities. I utilise tools and language that enable the student have a productive learning experience. These tools include but are not limited to: quality tutorial content, quality instructions as well as active student/tutor interactions.
