About Stephen

I am an active volunteer in aged care and at my church. I have played the flute in a woodwinds Orchestra and the piano for my church choir for many years.

I teach beginners who want to learn the flute for personal enjoyment, performance, music education, or simply as a rewarding hobby. As an adult learner myself, I specially understand the challenges adults can face when learning a new instrument. Finding time to practice can sometimes be difficult due to various commitments, such as work, family, and other responsibilities. With patience, personal experience, and a supportive approach, I help students build confidence and develop their skills at their own pace.

My teaching philosophy is based on simple, structured learning, regular practice, and positive encouragement. I believe that when students enjoy the learning process, they progress more quickly and gain greater satisfaction from their achievements. My lessons are clear, well-organized, and easy to follow.

During lessons, I teach breathing techniques, hand and finger positioning, tone production, rhythm, scales, music reading, and overall musicianship. I also help students prepare for performances and practical music examinations.

My goal is to make learning the flute enjoyable, rewarding, and achievable for every adult beginner. I believe that anyone can learn to play the flute well, regardless of their age. It's never too late to begin your musical journey.

About the lesson

My flute teaching methodology is built on three core values: Motivation, Patience and Communication. I believe that learning music should be enjoyable, disciplined, and meaningful.

Motivation helps students stay focused, confident, and committed to their learning. I encourage them with positive feedback, achievable goals, and regular recognition of their progress. Celebrating each milestone helps students build confidence, enjoy their practice, and stay motivated.

Patience is essential in teaching because every student has different abilities, learning styles, and musical backgrounds. I understand that each learner progresses at their own pace. With patience, experience, and knowledge, I guide students in finding the learning approach that works best for them, helping them overcome challenges with confidence.

Communication is a vital part of effective flute teaching. I explain each technique in clear, simple language and reinforce it through demonstrations. Students learn breathing techniques, posture, hand and finger positioning, tone production, articulation, rhythm, and music reading step by step. I encourage questions, listen carefully to any concerns, and provide patient guidance throughout their musical journey.
