About Lancelot

I learned to play chess as a child, and always enjoyed playing it regularly, but it wasn't until much later that I got into it seriously. I think that having learned all the specificities and techniques of this game at an older age allows me to better put myself in my students' shoes and understand the difficulties they face in their learning. Having found the right ways to study this game, I quickly progressed, and now want to help you do the same.

I am now 28 years old and there is not a day that goes by without me being involved with the game of chess, whether it is to learn new things, improve on what I've learned, teach or simply play. And it is with passion that I want to share the love that I have developed for this fascinating game.

I am an IT-engineer, but also a primary school chess teacher. In addition to English, I am fluent in French, Dutch, Italian and Spanish, and can also teach in these languages.

About the lesson

We are all different, each our experience, each our style. I adapt my course to each one. The goal for me is not to impose a style or a way of playing on you, but to give you the keys to understand this game, to know what to do and to become better.

If you're a beginner, we'll start with the basics: basic checkmates, the importance of material, simple tactics, fundamental opening principles, and basic endgames.

If you are a more experienced player, then we will focus on advanced tactics, mastering an opening repertoire, advanced endgames, strategy, calculations...

In addition to that, I attach great importance to establishing a plan. Wether you're a beginner or a more experienced player, nothing is more frustrating than finding yourself in front of the chessboard and not knowing what to play. Following the approach of international master Jeremy Silman, I help my students understand the imbalances of positions, in order to know what to play at all times.

Finally, essential point to improve, we will analyze your games, to understand where your weaknesses are and how to correct them, but also to find your strengths, in order to be able to direct your games in a direction where they can shine. No worries if you don't play outside of class, we can play friendly games during class and analyze them together.

I also give you exercises at the end of class, adapted to your needs, to allow you to continue practicing between classes.

And if you ever want to learn or work on something in particular, I'm always open to that. Above all, it is essential that you enjoy playing and learning this magnificent game.
