About Carl

I’m a guitar teacher with over 9 years of experience and a Bachelor of Music Education, focusing on guitar. I love helping students discover how music can be a powerful way to express emotions. For me, playing guitar is not just about hitting the right notes but sharing feelings through sound. I focus on building solid technique from the start. Good habits are important for playing smoothly and avoiding injury. Along with technique, I teach music theory so students understand what they are playing. Knowing theory makes it easier to learn new songs and create your own music. I guide students to develop practical fluency across the entire fretboard. This helps in playing different styles and improvising confidently. Every lesson is designed to balance skill-building with creativity and fun. Whether you want to play for yourself or perform for others, I’m here to support your journey. I believe anyone can improve with the right guidance and passion. My goal is to help you play with confidence and emotion, making music a meaningful part of your life.

About the lesson

My teaching approach is focused on helping students build a strong foundation in guitar playing while enjoying the learning process. I start with basic techniques like proper hand positioning and ergonomic playing to avoid injury and play comfortably for long sessions. We work on open chords and power chords to give students a solid grip on common shapes used in many songs.

Finger dexterity exercises are an important part of my lessons. They help improve speed and accuracy, which are essential for all styles. I also include ear training to help students recognize notes, chords, and rhythms by listening. This skill makes learning songs easier and enhances musical creativity.

Theory is woven into every lesson. I teach concepts like Roman Numeral Chord Nomenclature, which helps students understand how chords work together in progressions. This knowledge makes playing and writing music more meaningful.

For those interested in fingerstyle playing, I provide focused guidance to develop independence between fingers and create beautiful melodies. Students who enjoy leading worship or group sessions receive support to improve their rhythm, chord transitions, and confidence in playing live.
