About Richard

I specialise in teaching adult beginners and returning players who want calm, structured progress without feeling overwhelmed. My lessons are clear, supportive, and focused on helping you understand exactly what to practise and how to improve each week.

Whether you are starting from scratch, returning after years away, or moving on from self-teaching, I will meet you at your current level and guide you step by step with simple, practical lesson plans.

About the lesson

Lessons are relaxed, practical, and built around your goals. In lessons, we may cover:

* Practice structure — knowing what to work on, how long to spend, and how to practise effectively
* Rhythm and coordination — building a steady sense of pulse and improving confidence with both hands together
* Sight-reading — spotting patterns, intervals, chords, and familiar shapes more easily
* Technique — developing relaxed movement, better posture, control, tone, and touch
* Musical expression — working on dynamics, phrasing, pedalling, and character
* ABRSM preparation — support with graded exams if you want a clear structure to follow

Online lessons take place over Zoom with a studio microphone and overhead keyboard camera, making demonstrations clear and easy to follow.

Your first 30-minute lesson is free. We will look at your current level, find a few quick wins, and set a simple practice plan for the week.

Richard was extremely encouraging and engaged him from the beginning of the lesson. He said he really enjoyed it and was impressed with Richard's teaching style.
