About Yuri

I’m a Fine Art graduate and practicing artist with over five years of experience in art education. My teaching experience includes private art tutoring, children’s art education, art academy teaching, university-level drawing programs, first-year studio mentoring, and high school art education programs. I have worked with students of different ages and experience levels, from complete beginners to students looking to develop their portfolio and artistic skills. Alongside teaching, I continue to develop my own artistic practice through drawing, painting, objects, and other creative projects. My experience across different forms of art allows me to approach each student’s interests with an open and flexible perspective. I believe that learning art is not only about developing technical skills, but also about learning how to observe, experiment, think visually, and find your own way of expressing ideas. I’m a patient, friendly, and approachable teacher, and I want my students to feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and trying new things. Rather than using exactly the same method for everyone, I take time to understand each student and adapt the lessons to their individual goals and interests. I’m currently based near Moreland in Melbourne and offer personalized, in-person art lessons.

About the lesson

My lessons are designed to be personalised, practical, and supportive, with the content adapted to each student’s level, interests, and goals. Depending on what you would like to learn, lessons can include: • Drawing fundamentals and observational drawing • Proportion, perspective, composition, and visual understanding • Sketching and developing ideas • Painting and other creative techniques • Exploring different materials and ways of making • Creative projects and personal artistic development • Portfolio preparation and feedback • Guidance for students considering further study in art or a creative field For beginners, I focus on building confidence with the fundamentals while keeping the process enjoyable and approachable. For more experienced students, I can provide more specific feedback and help develop their ideas, visual language, and portfolio. I like to include demonstrations, practical exercises, individual feedback, and time for students to work independently during each lesson. Rather than following a strict fixed curriculum, I adjust the lesson depending on what the student needs and wants to improve. I also welcome international students and non-native English speakers. I can communicate in both English and Korean, and I aim to create a comfortable environment where students can focus on making art without feeling pressured by language. Lessons are offered in person in Melbourne, with the location arranged depending on the student’s needs and availability.
