About Alex

Since I was young, I have had a burning passion for biology. I pursued this interest by achieving a first-class honours degree in Biomedical Science at Cardiff University, where I studied a diverse range of biological fields, with a particular focus on the clinical management of human diseases. I subsequently refined my knowledge by obtaining a PhD at the University of Manchester by investigating the molecular oncology of prostate cancer, with a particular focus on therapeutic resistance. During my PhD I realised that my desire to help others extended beyond purely improving medical understanding through my own work, and also included the nurturing of scientific minds on their own journeys. Throughout my studies, I have been tutoring others of mixed ability to much success, and take great pride in guiding their development. I very much look forward to working alongside you to achieve your goals!

About the lesson

With over 10 years of experience tutoring biology from GCSE to postgraduate levels, I have found that the most effective way to promote understanding is to foster an appreciation for the fundamentals of a given topic. By understanding a given topic in detail, memorisation of difficult concepts is no longer necessary by virtue of it becoming common sense! For each lesson, I will work alongside you to identify areas that you find particularly challenging, and ensure that you possess a strong foundation whilst gradually increasing the complexity of our discussions. To further improve understanding and retention, I will direct you to material on related topics in order to support your development in a given topic. The goal for each lesson will have an informal discussion regarding your concerns in order to create a friendly atmosphere through which you can reach your full potential.
