About Joseph
Hello! I am a Neuroscience PhD Student @ UBC. I come from a biology background (my research focuses on genetics and molecular biology), but also have extensive experience as a Teaching Assistant for PSYC101 courses at UBC (3 years). In addition to helping you with select UBC course materials, I can also provide mentoring on success in undergraduate and in graduate school. I can also help with research proposals for grant writing (my scholarships/fellowships include CGS-M, NSERC PGS-D, UBC 4YF).

My teaching methods are flexible to the student - I usually try to get a handle on what style suits the student most (To this end, I am also straightforward and will let you know if we won't be a fit). I expect students to put in time to study and work - I will not do your homework or write your assignment for you, I expect you to make an effort, and I can help make it better.
In a typical class, we go over items you wish to go through, or follow along with what was taught in this week's class, and work on example questions. As a tutor, I specialize in personalized group or individual instruction - we identify and work on things you need work on, and do not waste too much time on areas where you are already strong.
My classes are meant for 1st and 2nd year undergraduates, or senior high school students who wish to get a head start on their university curriculum.

Rate depends on level of instruction, and which courses required. General mentoring on success in university/graduate school will be cheaper. Teaching to excel in a University level course will be more expensive. Rates are negotiable.
