About Abel

I'm Abel. I studied Artificial Intelligence at the University of Kent (BSc), did my MSc in AI at City St George's, University of London, and I'm now doing a PhD in AI at Kent.

I've tutored GCSE Computer Science since 2021, first with GoStudent and then privately with families, and I've helped students raise their grades, in one case from a 4 to an 8.

My approach is simple: break the topic into small steps, go at the student's pace until it clicks, then practise with real exam questions until they can do it on their own under time pressure. A lot of students arrive convinced they're "not a coding person". Most of them just haven't had it explained one step at a time.

I teach on weekday evenings and weekends. I'm fluent in English, Spanish and Romanian, and I hold a DBS certificate.

About the lesson

Every lesson follows the exact specification your child is sitting: GCSE AQA 8525, OCR J277 or Edexcel 1CP2, and A-level AQA 7517 or OCR H446.

The first lesson is a diagnostic. We go through short questions from across the course so we can see which topics are secure and which need work. After that, most lessons have two halves: a topic taught step by step, then exam-style questions marked against the real mark scheme.

What we can cover:
• Python programming, in a live editor we both type into
• Algorithms, pseudocode and trace tables
• Binary, hexadecimal, images and sound
• Logic gates and Boolean logic
• Networks, cyber security and how the CPU works
• Exam technique for the longer 6- and 8-mark answers
• A-level: data structures, object-oriented programming, and guidance on the NEA programming project (within the exam board's rules: I teach the skills, the student writes the project)

After every lesson, parents get a short written note: what we covered, what went well, and the homework. I have my own practice questions and homework sheets for every topic on every board, so there is always the right material ready.

Lessons are 60 minutes, online, with a shared whiteboard and a live Python editor. Your child needs a laptop or desktop, headphones with a microphone and a stable connection.

Packs: 5 lessons for £225 (£45 a lesson), 10 lessons for £420 (£42 a lesson), or a 20-lesson term for £780 (£39 a lesson). All practice questions, homework sheets and the written update after every lesson are included. Lessons can be moved with 24 hours' notice.
