About Seán
Hello! I'm Seán, a PhD student at the University of Edinburgh studying how to use AI with satellite data for good (population and poverty estimation in developing countries). I also have a BSc in Applied Physics and a MSc in Space Science & Technology, as well as 5 years in industry working as a software developer and data scientist. Believe it or not, I initially struggled with math and physics in school. It wasn't about not being "good enough," but finding the right learning strategy for me. I realized that everyone learns differently, and some need varied teaching styles and paces. Just because something doesn’t click in class the first time doesn’t mean it never will! My goal is not only to teach you concepts but also to help you discover the learning approach that suits YOU best.

Mathematical and physics concepts can initially seem impossible to understand. Many students find these subjects challenging, but with the right approach, those "aha!" moments are within reach. Whether you need more time than school lessons allow or just a fresh perspective, I'm here to help. I offer student-focused sessions where you set the agenda. We begin with the basics and build up, tailoring each class to your unique needs and goals. My aim is to boost your confidence and understanding, so you're ready to tackle any problem. Sessions are typically 60 minutes, but can be extended if needed. Before each lesson, you simply let me know which topics or chapters you want to explore, and I'll prepare customized materials just for you. Together, we'll work through math and physics questions using an online whiteboard. We'll tackle problems from both workbooks and past papers to gain experience, so that you'll be ready for exam time. The focus isn't just on finding the solution but understanding how to approach and solve the problems. To make concepts clearer, I use visuals and real-world examples. During my BSc in Applied Physics, I continued to tutor fellow students and those preparing for the Leaving Certificate. As a software engineer, I led coding workshops for diverse groups. Now, during my PhD, I run coding workshops for other PhD students and tutor secondary school students.
