About Romy
I am a pianist, improviser and composer born in Havana, Cuba. I began to study classical piano at the age of 9 and graduated from the National School of Arts in Havana, Cuba in 2001. I spent the next 8 years teaching piano and performing as a classical pianist in Cuba and Panama. In 2009 I moved to Melbourne and it was around this time that I discovered a passion for composition and improvisation. I studied and graduated from the Victorian College of the Arts in jazz and contemporary music in 2017.
I have more than 10 years experience teaching piano to students of all ages and skill levels. I have guided students through AMEB examinations and have also taught jazz, improvisation and composition.

As a piano teacher I ensure that the lessons are tailored to the student’s interests whilst developing a strong theoretical and technical foundation. I believe that learning an instrument benefits students in cultivating discipline, perseverance and developing problem solving mindsets whilst unleashing creativity and musical sensibility. Playing music is a beautiful and rewarding experience and I strive to make lessons enjoyable from the very beginning.
