About Cole

I hold a B.Mus in Piano Performance and an M.Mus in Music Pedagogy, with 8 years of teaching experience guiding learners at all levels from beginners to advanced performers. My teaching philosophy emphasizes structured technical development, creative exploration, and expressive performance, helping students develop a strong foundation, confidence, and a personal connection to music. I design lessons that balance technical exercises, repertoire study, improvisation, and collaborative work to support the holistic growth of every student.

Over the years, I have worked with a diverse range of students, tailoring my lessons to their goals, abilities, and interests. I provide detailed feedback, encourage reflective practice, and foster expressive confidence while nurturing each student’s unique musical voice. Lessons are interactive, engaging, and designed to inspire curiosity, motivation, and love for the piano.

Outside of teaching, I remain actively engaged in performance, repertoire study, and pedagogical research. This allows me to incorporate current techniques and artistic approaches into my lessons, ensuring students receive relevant and inspiring instruction. Watching learners progress from tentative beginners to confident, expressive pianists is immensely rewarding. My mission is to cultivate technically proficient, musically expressive, and emotionally confident pianists who enjoy every step of their musical journey.

About the lesson

Piano lessons are most effective when learners simultaneously develop technical proficiency and musical artistry. My lessons focus on finger independence, reading fluency, rhythmic precision, dynamics, phrasing, pedaling, improvisation, ensemble performance, and expressive interpretation. I emphasize structured exercises paired with creative exploration, encouraging students to engage with music actively, express their unique voice, and develop a lifelong appreciation for the instrument. Each lesson combines technical drills, repertoire practice, and performance simulation to foster both skill and confidence.

Beginners focus on posture, fundamental finger coordination, basic scales, simple repertoire, and sight-reading exercises to establish a strong foundation. Intermediate learners refine technical skills, expand their repertoire, practice expressive phrasing, and develop ensemble skills through duet and group exercises. Advanced learners focus on interpretation, performance preparation, stylistic versatility, improvisation, and advanced ensemble participation. Lessons include personalized feedback, reflective practice, and engaging exercises designed to promote both technical mastery and creative growth.

Studying piano develops discipline, focus, creativity, and emotional expression. Students gain confidence in solo and ensemble performance, interpretive skill, and the ability to communicate musically. My goal is to help learners combine technical mastery with expressive artistry, cultivating musicians who are confident, versatile, and inspired in their performance and musical journey.
