About Jemima
I am a researcher and trained textiles artist with a specific subject focus on the intersection between disability and the arts and a passion for using this to improve the lives of neurodivergent individuals.
I was diagnosed with autism in the 3rd year of my BA, when I was 21. I never found school easy and whilst I wasn't a bad student, it was clear that my grades never matched the effort I was putting in to my work. Looking back, I realise that I was working within a system which didn't understand me and that it was this, not academic incapability, which was holding me back.
I have since completed a BA in Textiles, an MDes in Global Design (using design to inspire social change) and I am currently taking a break from Doctoral study. Being the daughter/granddaughter/great-granddaughter of teachers, I've grown up being inspired by the opportunities that teaching affords to make a difference to others. This is and always has been my personal and professional goal.

I believe that learning is completely individual and should always be tailored towards the specific learning style of the student. Having been diagnosed with autism as an adult, I have a strong personal understanding of the challenges faced within education by neurodivergent learners in particular and my approach within tutoring is supported by 4 1/2 years of experience in neurodiversity research at Master's and Doctoral level.
My aim is always to work with students to find learning styles and academic techniques which work for them and I am very much led by the needs of each individual; if something isn't working, what other approaches could we try instead? Additionally, I believe that teaching is fully bidirectional and I can confidently say that I learn as much from my students as they do from me.
I can offer lessons ranging from 1/2 hour to 2 hours depending on the needs of the individual and I am always willing to discuss this. I have experience working with a range of ages from KS3 to adult learners at BA level and I have a particular interest in working with SEND students, however I am of course happy to work with anyone who feels that my style may be a good fit.
