Hi there! My name is Mariel, and I'm currently studying Mathematics at university.
During the first lesson, I tend to test my students in terms of the fundamentals, to see if they have a good foundation for their required year level. We also quickly go through what they would like to achieve then get straight to work!
From then on, lessons generally start with a quick review to allow me to gauge what level of understanding my students have from previous lessons, or what they are struggling with. This means taking any questions from work they've been assigned by myself or by their teachers previously as well as elaborating on concepts they need help with. We then move onto learning new content, working on questions together and without my assistance, before I assign any work needed to be done before our next session.
I believe that tutors need to be understanding, patient, but also firm in their encouragement for their students to do their best. Everyone learns differently, and as is the case, I will do my best to accommodate to my students' individual needs so that they may learn in the most effective way for them.
I first started tutoring for younger family members and friends for two years before finally moving to private tuition in early 2017.
I have seen a student of mine go from very unsure to confident in her ability in the span of a semester, where she went from an exam score of 38% mid-year to 86% by the end of the year. I hope to help other students gain confidence and reach their goals as well.
