About Jonathan
I am 23 years of age, and I have been studying music as a whole since I was about 11. I started playing the clarinet at that age. Through playing this instrument in middle school band, I began to gain interest in many instruments, and eventually how they all work together to create the music we know and love. In high school I became ambitious. I was restless to learn the ins and outs of music. I studied closely beside my band directors who greatly supported my drive. In sophomore year I became my high schools Drum Major, meaning I was in charge of conducting the band on the marching field. This gave me tremendous experience in the musical subjects that it encompasses. I remained in the position for the rest of my high school education. By the time I graduated I was able to play many instruments, (Piano, clarinet, bass tenor and snare drums, trumpet, tenor sax, and flute) at an adequate level. I was using all of this knowledge to push me into a music composition career. This is when I attended UNT, the best public music school in Texas. However due to unseen circumstances I was unable to stay at UNT. However, my most memorable experiences during and after UNT were when I would sit down with peers and tutor them on the music theory that they didn’t understand very easily. This is why I believe I’ll be a great tutor for anyone willing to learn.

I’ve experienced 2 sides of music theory education. First, at the college level. I attended The University of North Texas and studied many musical subjects there. Music Theory, namely, was what I excelled at, as I tested out of those core classes.
Secondly, at the personal level. What I mean by this is learning through your own personal drive. The Music Theory I was taught in college is far more elementary than the Theory I have discovered for myself through constant listening, and applying.
Since I’ve experienced both sides, I’ve come to understand that a little bit of both methods goes a very long way. My style of teaching will make sure that you get an adequate balance of Education through me and through your own personal drive to learn
