My teaching style is to build a student's trust and confidence in their own abilities and to work to convince them that chemistry does not need to be scary or hard. Chemistry is all around us all the time!
Helping a struggling chemistry student usually starts with diagnosis of the problems that they are having. It's a subject that builds upon itself, so a shaky foundation will lead to problems in the long run. Clarification of underlying concepts often allows students to overcome obstacles that have been holding then back.
The other common theme I work on with all of my students is organization and study habits. Direct one-on-one tutoring can be a great help for students, but teaching them how to learn and be successful on their own is the ultimate goal.
