In addition to a successful and ongoing career as an engineer and software developer, I have found success, joy, and purpose in tutotring students of many ages and a wide variety of talents, goals and interests. Using my skills, qualifications, and professional and academic experience to help others achieve their goals, and access opportunities to improve their futures and themselves has been one of the most fulfilling and rewarding pursuits I have ever engaged in.
I specialise in any type of maths, science, and computers, from a high school level to university. I believe that anyone can learn (and master, and enjoy!) these subjects - so I try to get to know each student, to customise my approach for their individual learning styles, and find the best ways to present the information to their mind - and with a perseverence and a little patience.. I cannot recall any student that I haven't been able to help. Some of the least confident students have been the ones to make the most remarkable turn arounds!
I can also work with the "smarty pants" students who may just want to do that little bit better - extra problems, challenges, and planting thoughts to lead them to link together the subjects they are studying in profound and surprising ways.
One of the most important aspects to the way I tutor, is that regardless of the particular subject we're learning about together.. and whether we see each other 1-2 hours a week (which is probably typical of an "average" high school student), or perhaps 3-4 hours (or more!) for some intense undergraduate studies.. I will not just be teaching you as much as I can about whatever the subject is at hand....
Through the very process itself, I will share with you as many of the techniques, strategies, tricks and tips I have acquired over decades, about how to *learn* in general. How to think. How to think about thinking. How to maximise study time, get assignments done, proper exam techniques, tricks for remembering things, how to be effective in meetings, how to influence people, or deal with difficult people or environments.
Of all the destinations and journeys I like to think I've helped my students to help themselves to reach, and of all the moments of realisation, of epiphany even, at times, that I've seen students go through... The best moments to me, might well be when we've been working together for some time (weeks, sometimes months), and their test scores (and understanding, and abilities! and confidence!) have improved exponentially, and they turn around, and they say.... "I think I don't need you any more".
That's when they've achieved whatesver they came to me about in the first place, or they are well on their way to doing so. And it's when they know that they didn't just learn some things - they actually learned how to t hink, how to learn! And they also learned that *they* can do all sorts of things, with a little effort !.. And if, or rather when, they come across some other challenge (mental, physical, ??...) in life that seems crazy-hard at first, or maybe near-on impossible... They actually know for *fact*, they cna get it done if they really want to...
