About Ilya
Hello! I am a highly experienced and professional mathematics tutor specialising in GCSE, A-level and university mathematics tuition.
Throughout my over 10 years teaching experience, I have helped students achieve their dream grades in exams, get into schools and universities (including Oxbridge), and rescue their academic situations in the run up to exams.
I graduated from University College London in 2016 with an MSci degree in Mathematics, with a focus on Algebraic Number Theory. I have been working in the private sector since then as an R&D consultant in a number of firms.
I have been tutoring Mathematics for over a decade, at all levels from the 11+ to postgraduate level.
School level:
- GCSE and A level Mathematics: full service tutoring for any UK exam board, and I am prepared to teach the new demanding syllabus. This includes teaching material, providing unlimited practice and working towards exam technique.
- Oxbridge Mathematics interviews: how to do these interviews, how to solve very unexpected questions under pressure. To date, all of my students successfully received offers from various Oxbridge colleges.
- STEP/AEA papers: building on a base of A-level knowledge, we will work through the techniques needed, particularly for STEP II and III. And lots of practice.
- KS2 and KS3: I have tutored a number of students in these very important stages in their education. Supplementing their classroom learning with practice and clearing up misconceptions in time puts my students in a uniquely advantaged position to do very well in their further studies.
University level:
- Algebra: foundations of algebra, linear algebra, number theory, algebraic number theory, and similar courses
- Analysis: real and complex analysis, and similar courses
Every student who seeks tuition has a goal. It may be a target grade, it may be a particular exam, it may be to get into their dream university. My job as a tutor is to find out what they are missing, teach them the knowledge and techniques, and prepare them to annihilate whatever exam or interview stands in the way of their success.
In lessons, I focus on providing students with a complete and robust understanding of the mathematical concepts behind the topic we are studying. Mathematics is meant to be practised, and so for every student I prepare worksheets with questions designed especially for them, to target their weaker areas and to prepare them for the real exams.
