Came to Bob wanting to learn to play the piano with no experience at the age of 45. No easy feat but He gave me the skills I needed to begin and continue on my musical journey. He is an accomplished instructor for all ages and levels.
Bob is a very patient and gentle piano teacher. He is very good at setting up a musical problem for you to solve and then giving you time to work out the solution. I find that this approach (rather than just giving me the answer) helps me learn the material much faster and more thoroughly. I also enjoy the lessons more, too. I have made a lot of progress working with Bob!
I took piano lessons ( Jazz and Improv) with Bob for years. He is absolutely the best teacher I’ve had in my adult years. He’s patient, thorough, listens to questions and understands how to explain in a way the student can hear. In addition, his graceful playing is inspirational. Bob has a very kind and generous spirit. He will meet a true student more than half way. I whole heartedly would recommend Bob Ross!
Bob has been my teacher since the middle of high school, around 2005 or so. He prepared me for college auditions, and while I studied under other teachers in school, I still kept in touch and continued to study with him during summers.
Everything I know today as a jazz piano player is rooted in the foundation he gave to me, and it has been applied to all other genres of music I play and listen to. I was a Suzuki student starting at 6 years old, and I studied primarily classical until meeting Bob in high school. It was then recommended in college to focus only on jazz, and it has been that way ever since. Since graduation from music schools, Bob has reintroduced classical repertoire and technique into my studies as an important piece of becoming a complete piano player.
Though I also grew up at a young age with a strong foundation in theory, over the years Bob has helped me understand theory at a deeper level that has been able to be applied to performance situations, as well as in my continued lessons with him in both classical and jazz.
Bob has had a wonderful career as a working and touring musician, and he has fine tuned his teaching method over decades for students of all ages. I feel he would be an important and valuable addition to any group of educators he becomes involved with.View more recommendations
