I like to give a solid explanation as to the what we are doing and why, as well as how. It's more important to understand the fundamentals to ensure the same learning can be applied sometimes vastly different scenarios. Then I like to give a practical demonstration of what ever is being taught so the students see what is supposed to happen. Finally I let them go to have repeated practice sessions until they work it out for themselves, helping with gentle nudges and supportive questions along the way.
