About Francesco

I am an Italian pianist based in London, where I concluded with Distinction my Master of Music at the Royal College of Music. In September 2021 I have started my Doctoral Studies at the RCM, supported by an RCM Studentship. In the past years, I studied at the Conservatorio Santa Cecilia in Rome and in 2019 I achieved my piano degree with honours at the International Academy AIMART of Rome, where I studied with the international concert pianist Daniel Rivera. I took part in several international piano competitions, always achieving great results, and I performed in several venues and international music festivals, both as a soloist and in different chamber ensembles. Since 2018, after winning the competition organised by the festival “Villa Borghese Piano Day”, I have become one of the pianists who perform in the next festivals. In my performances I enjoy programming classics of the piano repertoire alongside less familiar names, such as Albéniz, Granados, Alkan, Blumenfeld, and Godowsky. Since I was young, I have collaborated with musicians in a range of chamber ensembles. Alongside my piano career I have always had a passion for teaching and I have taught children and adults of different level and ages both in Italy and in London.

About the lesson

My teaching methodology always adapts to the student, according to the level, age, personality, interests and the results and goals that the student wants to achieve. Most importantly, my aim is to transmit the passion for music and the happiness of making music. For this reason, I always let the students play from the very first lesson, as this is essential for them to express their natural musicality. Musicality requires listening. In all of my lessons attention will be drawn on the importance of listening carefully, in order to train the ear and understand the importance of musicality. This can be done at every level, starting with the understanding of basic dynamics and arriving to the ability of conducting a musical phrase and the develop different touches on the keyboard. The development of a musical consciousness goes hand in hand with the development of a solid technique, which enables the pianist to express all his musical thoughts through the instrument. The first elements that I teach and which are essential to learn to play the piano are rhythm and notation. The knowledge of these two elements enables the students to play every piece of music that they want which is suitable for their level. In order to play, it is essential to assume a correct posture and position of the hands, which is something that I cover in the very first lessons. From that, it is possible to develop the technique necessary to realise all the musical thoughts. Different articulations, finger independence, relaxation of the arm, use of the wrist and forearm, use of the pedals of a piano, are all aspects that will be addressed in the lessons, according to the student's level. At a higher level, it will be possible to expand the knowledge of music theory, harmony and repertoire, exploring music from different periods and composers, in order to have a solid musical knowledge and develop a unique musical personality. Finally, I am always happy to listen to the needs and desires of each student and focus on their goals, such as ABRSM exams or other examinations, never forgetting the importance of happiness in music making.
