About Caelan

Caelan, an 18-year-old pianist from Macau SAR, began learning piano at the age of four. He first gained recognition as a Prize Winner at the 2017 Macau Young Musicians Competition and, in 2018, secured First Prize in two Intercollegiate Duet Competitions alongside his older brother. Later that year, he was awarded a music scholarship to Gresham’s School in North Norfolk, where he continued to develop as an artist.

In 2022, Caelan commenced his studies at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, specialising in Classical Piano, Composition, Conducting, and Chamber Music. His achievements at Guildhall include winning the Keyboard Category at the 2024 Lutine Prize, after which he received a scholarship to complete his final year. In early 2025, he again won the GSMD Keyboard Category and was selected to represent the Institution at the Beethoven Piano Society of Europe Junior Intercollegiate Piano Competition, where he was awarded Second Prize. Upon graduating in mid-2025, he received Guildhall’s highest honour for a pianist: the Piano Prize.

In late 2024, Caelan won the Senior Waterman Recital Gold Medal at the Wharfedale Festival of Performing Arts, leading to a public recital at the 2025 Waterman Recital with Leeds International Piano Competition Third Prize Winner, Khanh Nhi Luong. His performances have been praised by the press including the Ilkley Gazette and the Wharfedale Observer.

Caelan is currently an undergraduate scholar at the Royal Northern College of Music, studying under Professor Graham Scott. He has participated in masterclasses with distinguished pianists, among others, Ronan O’Hora.

About the lesson

I offer highly focused and inspiring piano lessons for students of all ages and all levels, from complete beginners to advanced pianists preparing for auditions, competitions, or conservatoire study.

As a pianist studying at the Royal Northern College of Music and who has also vigorously studied under the Russian School of Piano Playing, my teaching brings all of my students strong technical foundations and a nurtured and philosophical musical understanding of every piece that they learn. My lessons are tailored individually to each student, focusing and building them their own daily practice routines and lists of daily/weekly exercises, which will help them tackle any weaknesses and difficulties that they have in any piece.

I believe that music should not exist in isolation, but to coincide with all the different realms of the arts. In my teaching, I often draw connections between music and other artistic disciplines such as Philosophy, Architecture, and Poetry. I encourage my students to read as much as they can and explore different forms of art, as this will greatly enrich and transform their interpretation of the repertoire.
