About Sukanya

Hello! I am Sukanya Sharma, an Architect, Conservation Professional, Researcher, and Design Educator with extensive experience in architecture, heritage conservation, museum studies, cultural heritage documentation, and higher education.

I hold a Master of Architecture in Conservation from the School of Planning and Architecture, Bhopal, and a Bachelor of Architecture from Lingaya's University. Currently, I serve as Assistant Professor and Chair–Assistant Dean of the Archiving and Exhibition Action Group. I am also a Research Fellow and teach in the MA Museology and Cultural Heritage Programme, and work as a Museum Facilitator as well.

Over the years, I have worked on architectural conservation, heritage documentation, cultural mapping, museum interpretation, and community engagement projects across Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Haryana, and Delhi. My work has been recognized by various institutions, including the Department of Tourism and the Department of Archives, Archaeology and Museums, Jammu & Kashmir, for contributions to heritage documentation and conservation initiatives.

My international experience includes being selected for the HeritageForAll International Internship Exchange in Cairo, Egypt, and receiving a scholarship to participate in the Young Professional Forum – Emerging Skills for Heritage Conservation organized by the International Institute for Conservation and CCR, Rome. I have also completed advanced training in Heritage Impact Assessment through an international programme organized in partnership with UNESCO, ICCROM, IUCN, WHITRAP, and the Norwegian Ministry of Climate and Environment.

As an educator, I believe learning should be engaging, practical, and intellectually stimulating. I encourage students to develop independent thinking, strong design reasoning, and effective communication skills. About the lesson

My teaching approach combines design thinking, critical inquiry, visual communication, and personalized mentorship to help students develop both technical competence and creative confidence. Rather than focusing solely on outcomes, I guide students through the design process—understanding context, generating ideas, refining concepts, and effectively presenting their work.

A typical class begins with a discussion of the project brief, design challenge, or academic requirement, followed by concept development, case study references, sketching exercises, design reviews, and constructive feedback sessions. Depending on the student's needs, classes may also include portfolio development, thesis guidance, architectural representation, research methods, presentation techniques, and career planning.

As an architect, researcher, and academic with experience teaching architecture, heritage studies, museum studies, and design-related subjects, I bring an interdisciplinary perspective that connects classroom learning with real-world practice. My mentoring style emphasizes independent thinking, problem-solving, and building a strong design narrative rather than relying on formulaic solutions.
