My goal is to empower my students by requiring them to prepare presentations and engage in discussions.
Part of that preparation is to read primary sources with me and with other students. Writing is communication across time. However, many students are not prepared by their K-12 experience to read those communications. Basic English is just the starting gate. To finish the race, you need to learn from human experience in history, philosophy, art, and religion, as well as science and math.
